Pitching went very high in this league, i would have liked one more flame thrower but the value early was in hitting.

Good evening guys,

John Dean here, from Santa Ana, CA, with your first of many weekly reports for Las Vegas #6...

Not much baseball action to report on yet, since we just had one game tonight...no doubt Carpenter fans were a little upset, but it's early, so don't even consider dropping him yet. :D

Our first, and perhaps most important FA bidding period is now in the books, and here are some key results...(runnerup bid in parenthesis)...

1. Al Reyes 305 (221) - God Bless The USA snatched their first closer with this successful bid. I know this means a lot to "God" after trying so hard to get a Boston closer late in the draft, only to see Papelbon return to the pen.

2. Alejandro De Aza 155 (102) - Love him or hate him, when Gordon Gekko speaks, people listen...whether they want to or not  De Aza went for high bids everywhere, including here where The Baller + The Shot Caller grabbed some needed speed...if de Aza lives up to the recent hype.

3. Juan Salas 127 (5), Shannon Stewart 118 (none), Scott Hairston 116 (40), and Braden Looper 59 (36) were all picked up by Main Event Insulaters. While the Insulaters might like to take some of those high bids back, no doubt both Hairston and Looper could pay immediate dividends.

4. Elijah Dukes 115 (52) - Sackofpotatoes 2007 had the winning bid for this TB youngster, who is expected to see plenty of action in the early going.

5. Other FAs to go this week include Dmitri Young, Preston Wilson, Jay Payton, David Riske, Ryan Theriot, and Derrick Turnbow. All have potential to contribute significantly to their teams this year.

Good luck this year everyone, and batter up!

John

John:

Nice read, and best of luck this season. Got a kick out of reading our league sticking out DOWN in the the basement.

Gekko pumped up one guy and went in another direction. Man, that is surprising. ;)

Hey Sack, thanks for the kind words, and good luck to you as well.

Yea, Gekko's first illusion was pretty damn good...everyone looked one way, he went the other.

Sunday Night Wrap-Up, Week 1, Through 4/8/07

So is everyone thrilled with their team so far?

I know I'm not...considering the amount of money these guys make, they should be out there playing in blizzard conditions!...of course, my V-Mart was doing just that (almost) and now I've got a little problem.

I'll feel a lot better next weekend if both Ruiz and Shoppach fall on their ass

1. Standings

Macedawgs leads the early going, and I don't know about you folks, but I got sick of seeing his name up towards the top of League 1 last year, and it looks like more of the same. The dawgs took Santana with their first pick, then went on to draft themselves a very well-balanced team.

Mission Impossible IV has somehow found their way through the snow to the 2nd spot for now, with the Bobcats, CDMman and Gordon Levitz 100g Team close behind. It's real early though, and last can become first in a matter of days. No doubt, Walla Walla intends to do just that this week.

2. FA Pickups

Darin Erstad 252 (156) - Main Event Insulaters led the way this week by grabbing this one-time hitting star for the Angels. As a born-and-raised Orange Countian, I have to applaud the Insulaters for a very gutsy bid on a player who was pretty washed up a few months ago. Time will tell whether that was a well-spent $252 or not.

Esteban German 123 (no 2nd bid) - Bobcats just had to get this guy...believe me, I know well how frustrating it is to bid high on someone that no one else bids on. Bobcats, I hope this works out for ya!

Jason Hirsh 79 (25) - The Baller + The Shot Caller grabbed this promising young Rockie pitcher. As long as it stays cold in the mountains, he should do just fine.

Micah Owings 75 (63) - no doubt this other promising youngster from Arizona was noticed by many this weekend, but only the Black Sox can play him...at least until RJ comes back. Will Owings stay or go? Stay tuned

Carlos Ruiz 75 (51) - I wish I had a sack of potatoes to throw at someone after V-Mart went down...and yes, I'm trying to make a clever, gentlemanly joke here lol - Sack 2007 had the winning bid on this part-time catcher with a big stick.

(I lost out on my second catcher bid as well...crap, just one more buck lol)

Other notable pickups this weekend include Trot Nixon (wow, what was he doing there lol), Paul Byrd (I thought about him a lot), Reggie Sanders (Shandler's favorite old man), Robinson Tejeda (can't just overlook that first performance), and Kelly Shoppach...who stayed away from the team who really needed him lol.

Well that's your weekly wrap-up folks. If you want me to cover anything else in these posts, just let me know.

Weekly Wrap-up for Week 2, April 9th - April 15th

Looks like the Frasor-Soria-Lind sweepstakes went off as I predicted to my pard...300-400 bids were common, with one guy bidding over 700 for Frasor. Tristan and I placed a token bid on Lind at 122, but it fell short...and would have fallen short in every league where he was a FA. Oh well, at least we grabbed a backup CI in Millar for a very cheap price, compared to some other leagues.

Dotel is due back in 2 weeks, who knows about Ryan, so we'll have to wait to see whether the sweepstakes winners come out real winners or not.

Macedawgs continues to lead the early going, as his offense continues to outperform early expectations, to go along with that fine pitching stafff.

Somehow, T and I are hanging in there at 2nd...offense is starting to click, so the Dawgs should be going down soon lol

Roundtrippers and Sack are right behind, with three teams sniping at their heeels, and Walla Walla continues to hold up the rear.

It's early though, a marathon not a sprint, and anyone can win this thing regardless of where they are right now.

Besides the big three ("God" took Frasor, while the "Bobcats grabbed both Soria and Lind), other notable pickups this week include:

Garza - 95 (22) - Sack grabbed this future Liriano-like young stud for the Twins. I wanted to go after him big, but changed my mind, hoping his first two rotten outings in the minors might keep folks away. Oh well.

Lohse - 55 (no 2nd bid) - The Baller + The Shot Caller snatched this guy up...pitched a career game yesterday, and looked damn good...but will Hyde take over again like he's always done in the past? Could be the grab of the year...if (and it's a big if) Jekyll can remain in control.

Sampson - 1 - team moberley blew a fortune landing this young hurler for Houston, who has looked good so far.

I'm gonna go ahead and cross-post this in our league area each week, so it's more visible.

Weekly Wrap-Up, Week 5, 4/30 - 5/6/07

Lots of action and news this week...Butler now playing, Victorino welcoming Lincecum to the big leagues (Lincecum does look really good as I write this in the bottom of the 2nd), Carpenter down for months, Ryan's elbow worse than thought, Frasor's new job in jeopardy (as least the Dawgs hope so)...and speaking of those Maced Dawgs, just how much longer can Santana and Peavy anchor that pitching staff, with 5 relievers going this upcoming week?

BTW guys, when our offense realizes the season started, you guys are in big trouble...Thome coming back in 2-3 weeks, Braun and Rivera down the road...sure hope this all plays out according to our recently re-re-re-re-re-re-written script lol.

So what do the standings look like this exact moment?

1. Macedawggs 101.5 +9.0

2. God Bless the USA 99.0 +2.5

3. Black Sox 95.5 -3.5

4. Mission Impossible IV 94.0 +0.5

5. GORDON LEVITZ 100g Team 91.5 +1.0

6. RoundTrippers 83.5 +2.5

7. CDMman 81.5 -4.0

8. Sackofpotatoes 2007 81.0 -0.5

9. The Baller +The Shot Caller. 78.0 -2.5

10. Main Event Insulaters 75.0 +1.0

11. Team moberley 74.0 +1.0

12. Team Shairson 68.5 -5.0

13. RickAnkiel'srevenge 61.5 +2.0

14. Bobcats 59.0 -2.0

15. Walla Walla 56.5 -2.0

No wonder the Dawgs are all smiles this evening, but with Ks and wins heading south in the coming days...

Black Sox was smart enough to draft Lincecum (wow, just gave up a 2-run HR to Howard), and CDMman grabbed Butler in Vegas, but we still had a few notable pickups this week:

Walla Walla Brad Wilkerson (LF) 221 71

Macedawggs Jeremy Accardo (MR) 103 41

Main Event Insulaters Reggie Willits (RF) 72 26

Team Shairson Alex Gonzalez (SS) 34 33

Mission Impossible IV Jack Cust (LF) 30 19

(sure hope Cust saves our ass a little lol)

That's it for tonight!

Weekly Wrap-Up, Week 6, 5/7 - 5/13/07

Wow, what a week! The standings shuffled back and forth at the top, but when it was all over, those annoying Dawgs held on to the top spot...albeit, a tenuous hold at best.

RoundTrippers had the best gain for the week...but it could be short-lived, as Halladay went down for a couple of months.

Meanwhile, Mission's offense has awaken...

Looks like this is where we're all at now:

1. Macedawggs 100.0 -1.0

2. Black Sox 98.0 +6.5

3. Mission Impossible IV 97.5 +4.5

4. God Bless the USA 93.0 -3.5

5. RoundTrippers 90.5 -1.0

6. GORDON LEVITZ 100g Team 89.0 +1.0

7. CDMman 84.0 +1.0

8. Sackofpotatoes 2007 83.5 +1.5

9. Main Event Insulaters 77.5 -0.5

10. RickAnkiel'srevenge 73.5 +4.5

11. The Baller +The Shot Caller. 71.5 +3.5

12. Team moberley 66.5 -4.5

13. Walla Walla 64.5 -2.5

14. Team Shairson 56.0 -6.5

15. Bobcats 55.0 -3.0

Waiver action today was interesting, to say the least. While Tristan and I decided to take the day off, some of you guys were rather busy, and at least one owner is cursing himself at the moment for not paying attention to the news...

Most noteworthy...

RoundTrippers Chad Gaudin (SP) 99 35 (got bombed today though)

God Bless the USA Jorge Julio (MR) 85 (well...)

Walla Walla Derrick Turnbow (MR) 51 31 (in case Cordero's arm falls off)

Macedawggs Fausto Carmona (SP) 47 31 (will he stick?)

Sackofpotatoes 2007 Jon Rauch (MR) 39 (in case the other Cordero's arm falls off)

well, running out of characters for this post, so everyone have a good week, especially MI4! lol

Weekly Wrap-Up for Week 7, 5/14 - 5/20/07

Well, 7 down, 19 to go. We've officially passed the 25% mark, and no doubt everyone's frustrated with at least one player with stats that look more like we've only played 2 weeks instead of 7.

Berkman is that guy for us. Berkman has me worried :(

Here's the projected standings as of the end of the week, and as you can see, those dirty dawgs refuse to go quietly...

Rank Team Value Points Change

1. Macedawggs 104.0 +0.5

2. Mission Impossible IV 101.0 0.0

3. Black Sox 98.0 -0.5

4. God Bless the USA 88.5 -3.5

5. RickAnkiel'srevenge 86.5 +11.0

6. CDMman 82.0 +0.5

7. Main Event Insulaters 81.5 -1.5

8. RoundTrippers 81.5 +1.0

9. Sackofpotatoes 2007 78.5 -2.5

10. The Baller +The Shot Caller. 78.5 -3.5

11. GORDON LEVITZ 100g Team 78.0 -4.5

12. Team moberley 70.0 +6.5

13. Walla Walla 59.5 +0.5

14. Team Shairson 57.5 0.0

15. Bobcats 55.0 -4.0

No doubt, the hottest team right now is RickAnkiel's revenge - last place 3 weeks ago with less than 50 points; now just a hair out of 4th place. Wow!

Free agent pickups today were led by Walla Walla, plunking down over $200 for Scott Baker. No doubt Walla Walla wishes he would have kept 7 $20s in his wallet.

Other notable pickups included:

Sack grabbing Mark Reynolds

Team Shairson grabbing the rejuventated Aaron Boone

God Bless the USA grabbing yet another closer candidate in Justin Duchscherer

Roundtrippers snatching Emil Brown, who is suddenly looking a lot better

I hope everyone has a good week,

John
