RBI Me

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Tue Sep 04, 2018 11:26 am

A couple of weeks ago, a team dropped Kendrys Morales in our Main Event League.
My team needing rbi, was a perfect fit for Morales.
But at the time, I had the wonderful 'problem' of not having many viable players to drop.
I also needed speed and that same week, Byron Buxton was also dropped.
Long story short, I did $13 on Buxton and put Morales at $9, second in the thread.
Been pulling fantasy hair out of my stupid fantasy head ever since.
Morales went on a week-long home run binge.
A homer a day. A freakin homer for every day of the week.

I tried to console myself by saying that maybe Buxton will come up and play like the hype. You know what happened there.
I also tried to console myself that nobody else in our league was smart enough to win Morales with a bid either.
Not a soul.
My $9 bid would have been an overbid. Problem is, I don't care about overbids. I just want the player!
Morales ended the week with eight homers, scads of rbi, a high average and one fantasy player with low self-esteem.
Ugh.

Morales is an RBI guy. At least he was. He only has 54 RBI this year and most of them seemed to have come last week.
RBI guys are fickle.
Do you know how many times Joey Votto has led his own team in rbi the last five years?
ONE time.
His own team.
This is because Votto would rather serve than spike.
Servers in the RotoWorld suck.

Bryce Harper has never driven in 100 runs.

The New York Yankees have had many big boppers over the last five years. Many.
Guess who is the only player to have led that team twice in RBI.
Go ahead take your time.
I'll start the Jeopardy clock.
Your answer was wrong.
The answer is Brian McCann.

During the last five years, Ryan Braun has led the Brewers in RBI one time.
He has been beaten by the likes of Lind, Lucroy, and Chris Carter.
RBI-wise, Braun is a fake slugger.

I love this one...
Edwin Encarnacion has 98 hits this year. Encarnacion has 92 RBI.

Dee Gordon, in a down stolen base year for EVERYBODY it seems, has less RBI (27) than stolen bases (30)
Can a one-category player be called a one-category player when such a minus in another category?

In 2013, power guy Adrian Beltre had 199 hits to lead the majors.
This year, power guy JD Martinez leads baseball with 169 hits.
It look again like we will not have a 200-hit player.
In the years after 2013, Jose Altuve has had 200 hits every season. That season ends this year.
More notably for fantasy players, Altuve quit running.
He will still be a first rounder, but he will not be a pal of Mike Trout's at the top of drafts.

Mitch Moreland has around 50 less at bats than Mike Trout.
He also has three more RBI than Trout.
Trout has knocked himself home 31 times. Others, 32.
Remember when Cozart and Kinsler were going to set the table for Trout.
Good times.

Anthony Rizzo's five year reign of leading the Cubs in RBI may be over this year.
Javy Baez has 100, Rizzo, 90.
Rizzo is the only player who has led his team in RBI with a chance to do it for a sixth year.
Even Longoria will not have the same opportunity following his trade to the Giants.

Give JD Martinez the MVP.
A possible triple crown winner who also leads the league in hits.
YET, Martinez has only walked 59 times.
A selective hitter who, you know, HITS.
On base percentage is not always earned.
Martinez has earned his.
By the way, there is not a single Red Sox player in the top 10 or even top 20 in drawing base on balls.
They'll take a walk, sure, but they want to hit.
Boston has seven players with more than 50 rbi and three players who will score more than 100 Runs.
The Red Sox, without walking a lot (10th of 30 teams), have scored many more runs than any other team in baseball.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
