All Star Break Stuff.....

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Fri Jul 20, 2018 8:46 am

The Astros and Padres have played 99 games, most by teams before the All Star break.
Brad Hand owners, looking for a silver lining in the Padres-Indians trade? The Indians have only played 95 games.

If Jose Altuve has 44 rbi in 99 games, is he 99 and 44/100 percent pure?
For young people, that was an advertising slogan for Ivory Soap.
"99 and 44/100 pure, it floats"
The ad campaign was a smash. Especially for a generation who took more baths than showers. Easy to find soap!
Porn Star Marilyn Chambers appeared as a loving mother on a box of Ivory Soap....Before her, uh, career.
Brooke Shields also appeared as an infant.
Getting back to baseball, Altuve is almost 90% to 502 plate appearance which would make him a qualified hitter for the entire year.
Altuve is second (.338) to Mookie Betts (.359) in batting average.

82 players have scored more runs than Dee Gordon.

David Peralta has more homers than Justin Smoak, and one more RBI to boot.
Unfortunately, the Diamondbacks have taken the stolen base out of their play book this year.
Peralta has two stolen bases. Ketel Marte has two. Paul Goldschmidt has three.
Zack Greinke has as many or more than these teammates with three stolen bases himself.
Greinke has also scored three more runs than both Steven Souza Jr and Sr.......

How bad is the Mets franchise?
They started in 1962.
Jake deGrom became only the sixth player drafted by the Mets to play in multiple All Star games.
(Wright, Strawberry, Gooden, Matlack, Hundley)
In 1962, the Mets finished 60.5 games out of first place.
They were eliminated from the pennant on August 10.
The Baltimore Orioles, 28-69, and now without their best player, may be challenging those marks this year.

Bryce Harper and his .214 average marks the first time a batter hit below .220 and started in the All Star game since Terry Steinbach (.217) in 1988.
Steinbach did not have a chance at winning the home run derby.

Remember during the off season when most were predicting a horrible season for the Miami Marlins?
It can't be that bad.
Their winning percentage (41-57) is just a little below that of every team in the A.L. Central (197-280)
And three one hundredths of a percent better than the New York Mets.....

Want to see a ball in play?
Watch Andrelton Simmons bat. He puts the ball in play in around 85% of his plate appearances.

Jose Ramirez has been spectacular.
We would have been laughed at had we drafted him in front of Goldy, or Kershaw, or Blackmon.
Ramirez has nine more extra base hits than strike outs.
Imagine that for a minute, a player in this generation who has a better chance of striking an extra base hit than striking out.
And, he has a lot of extra base hits (57)
Ramirez is also the only player to obtain 20-20 status before the All Star break this year.
He has 29 homers and 20 stolen bases.....

Another player having a banner year is Javy Baez.
Baez leads the National League with 73 RBI.
The last time a Middle Infielder led his league in RBI at the break was Alex Rodriguez in 2002.
Last year, Baez had 75 RBI for the year.

John Jay has more hits than Eric Hosmer.
How is that contract working out for you, Padres?
Hosmer's roto numbers are pedestrian for most and downright stink for his owners. .249/41/10/41/4
Jay beats him in two categories with a .277 average and 54 runs and ties him with four stolen bases.
Jay is a PITA (pain in the ass). A great PITA this year.
He has a thousand less homers than Harper, but only three less runs scored.

Matt Carpenter has 20 leadoff homers.
Lou Brock has the Cardinal record at 21.
No other Cardinal has double digit leadoff home runs.

Matt Chapman has a 4.5 WAR.
In what has become the most OVER RATED statistic in baseball, Chapman's mark exceeds that of both Javy Baez (3.7) and Ozzie Albies (3.4)
It also illustrates how WAR has zero to do with the fantasy side of baseball.

Remember when Billy Hamilton, Dee Gordon, and Trea Turner were drafted with hopes of 80 stolen bases.
Nobody is running wild this year.
Starling Marte leads baseball with just 25 stolen bases.
There is a remote chance that Jose Ramirez could lead baseball in both home runs and stolen bases.
A Fantasy Baseball owners wet dream.....

.249/65/15/46/6
.253/48/13/30/7
The first set of numbers belong to George Springer.
The second set of similar numbers belong to Brandon Nimmo.
Drafters of Springer in the second round, just threw up.

In what many consider to be a disappointing follow-up year, Chris Taylor has scored 55 runs.
Atop the mighty Yankee lineup, Brett Gardner has scored.........55 runs

Mike Trout (84) averages a walk every game or so.
Dee Gordon (6) averages one walk every three weeks or so....

After the All Star break last year, Rhys Hoskins hit 18 homers in 170 at bats
This year, Hoskins is a 'more at bats, less filling' type of guy.
He has 309 at bats and only 14 homers.
The Rhys Hoskins of 2018 is Max Muncy.
Muncy has hit 22 homers in 225 at bats.....
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Well, that didn't last long.

Carpenter is now tied with Brock with 21 leadoff homers for the Cards.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
