Our Regular Season Has Begun

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Wed Apr 04, 2018 9:02 am

Our regular season has begun.
Now, and only now, VALUE is being realized.
I had to withstand a torrent of phone conversations with a drafter who is/was in love with Keon Broxton.
He snapped Broxton up in every draft.
Giddy, with the thought that he was getting a 20/20 player on the cheap.
Some conversations imploring me to admit that in drafting Broxton late, he received 'value'.

Our regular season has begun.
And it has smacked this fella in the face.
Broxton, at the moment, not only has zero 'value', he has negative value.
For his DC teams, he is a bench warmer, drafted where a Starter should play.
For his FAAB teams, he becomes a decision and bench spot in whether to hold or let go.

Our regular season has begun.
And it smacks all of us in the face.
We all know that Matt Davidson and Joe Panik aren't that good, but there's three home runs in our stat bank.
A deposit gladly accepted.
Kenley Jansen was, bar none, the best reliever during drafting season.
Now, nobody knows, not even Jansen.
Already, some Managers are playing lineups with zero starting catchers.
It wasn't the plan.

Our regular season has begun.
Last years statistics that meant so much during drafting season, now, don't mean shit.
We know that Billy Hamilton is not a 4/5 round pick if hitting ninth.
We know that owning players like Ian Happ, Kyle Schwarber, Maikel Franco, Aaron Altherr, or just about any non-Superstar Cubs or Phillies player will drive us crazy because they have Managers who want to show the world how brilliant they are on a day-to-day basis by shifting lineups continually.
We know that a guy like Nick Markakis, who had only eight homers and zero stolen bases last year, is a suitable fella in any lineup with his responsibility of starting most games, while a shinier object like Aaron Hicks starts looking like a Corvette with a new paint job and rusted engine.

Our regular season has begun.
It doesn't matter what is said. All that matters is what is done.
An 'expert' can say that the humidor will change Arizona a lot.
An 'expert' can say that Ty Blach is a viable option.
An 'expert' can say that we should roster Adam Frazier.
Unlike drafting season, we get a first hand look at Adam Frazier, Ty Blach, and the effect of a humidor.
During drafting season, words are important.
During regular season, actions are more important.
Value is here.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
