An Optimistic Spin On a Pessimistic Dance

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Mon Apr 02, 2018 8:20 pm

There is a lot of stuff going on with this new site.
We knew it was coming. We had fair warning.
For us that have been through these site changes before, we know they are hardly ever good.
Almost like we have to start from block one all over again.
It's tough on everybody.
Tough on us, Greg, and the new IT that has to follow another IT.
Probably most tough on the new IT because, we the players have had so little confidence in the past with IT groups.
Of course, Greg defends each IT. In the long run, that alone, makes it tough on us.
We trust in Greg and when new IT groups sell Greg that they are the best, Greg goes all in and tells us the same.
The problem being that IT groups in the past were not all that wonderful.
So, it has us having less patience with each new site.

When draft season started long ago, I was ready for the worst.
Not disappointed, there were plenty of things wrong with the draft room.
I squawked. Other drafters squawked. It was a fine mess.
But then, a wonderful thing started happening.
One by one and sometimes two by two, the problems started getting solved.
Sometimes four or five problems disappeared in one day.

Placeholders, a problem that was hardly ever solved in the past was fixed in a manner of days.
After a couple of weeks, drafts, 100's of drafts were working seamlessly.
That's never happened here before.
I had to admit it. I was sold that this IT staff was different. They really did care.
Even the smallest things that made the draft room unliked by drafters were fixed till there were no more problems to solve.

Now, we are starting to go through the same thing with in-season management items.
Live scoring, rosters, team pages, FAAB, etc all have something wrong with them.
And again, folks are squawking.
It's only right.
We are used to what we had the previous year and we want it again.
Nothing wrong with squawking at all.

I saw what this group did with the draft room.
The changes will come all too slow for us and we will continue squawking.
It's our nature.
I don't know why this group tried to change several items from last year.
Maybe they watch too much 'American Idol' and wanted to make this 'their own'.
Probably veering off a little much.
Their mistake.

Soon, there will come a time when the changes become more plentiful and meaningful.
I don't say that because I want to believe it.
I say it because I saw what this group did with the draft room.
We actually have a group who really are 'on it'.
And the cool thing is, we won't have to go through this mess all again next year.
It'll all be set up the way WE want it, not what was in a non-playing head.
I'm looking forward to that.
We just, we just have to get through this.
There is enough pessimism everywhere.
You know what Oscar Wilde said about a pessimist?
When given the choice between two evils, he'll choose both.
But, he also wrote this about the optimist...
The basis for most optimism, is sheer terror.
We're good.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
