The guy next to me took him in maybe the 17th round and announced, 'no guts, no glory,' when he took him. I can see why people are doing it, but I wouldn't take him just because he used to be good or because one person at st thought his bat speed looked good. Historically, you can make all the excuses for the past two years you want, but we know how these little experiments with aging players turn out.

Personally, I'd rather take a player with real upside and a poor st report, which is why I was more than happy to go Mark Prior, round 23.

Not sure Prior has any upside at all at this point, in my humble opinion. Im no Sosa fan, but I must say, if he gets 400 AB's in hat lineup in that park he should could exceed expectations.

Even if Prior's contribution is 10 league average starts with a pile of K's, one could argue that that's worth a round 23 pick. It's not really a strain on your team value to take a flyer on a guy there. That said, I don't even understand your comment: that's all Prior is is upside. Unfulfilled upside. Not saying he'll fulfill it, but obviously it exists.

Sammy Sosa went in round 19 in NY-7. I might have taken a flyer on him, but not until the very late rounds.

Took him in RD 19 in NY 7 With him batting 5th in Texas and I feel he has something to prove about roid use from the past could not resist his potential Not a big Sosa fan but 25 hrs 90 rbis that late as a real possibility and needing a 5th OF No way could I resist. He has much more value than Prior who to me has no value

to have any value- you have to play. with sosa- you will know by may if you have something- because he is gonna start and bat 5th. with prior- it is really a joke in chicago. he and wood basically throw towels around and play catch. they will always be "on the mend"

We took Sosa in Round 24 in NY League 2 for the potential of his power which we can use. I think if he starts the year he might tire by the dog days of summer but was willing to take the chance but not until the bench rounds.

Sammy is the man! Mark Prior could have been the man! Sammy at worst will be 25-75,,,but at best could be 35 -120. I doubt it but it could happen.

I grabbed Sammy in the 20th round (NY 1). If he went 20-25hr with 75-85 rbi I would be very happy. I felt at that point in the draft, it was a good time to grab him and hope for the best - or that he is back on HGH for at least one more year.
