$5,000 Draft Champions League To Debut In 2017

Posted: Fri Dec 16, 2016 3:22 pm
by Greg Ambrosius
We have been asked by a few top owners to take the NFBC Draft Champions concept to a higher level with a private league like no other. As a result, we will offer a $5,000 Draft Champions League with the same payout structure as the Ultimate League:

1st - $40,000
2nd - $20,000
3rd - $7,500

I will even cover the cost of the league's entry into the overall contest, so no funds will be taken out of this pool to be part of the overall contest. But why not also give everyone a shot at that $28,000 grand prize as well.

The highest entry point we've ever had for a Draft Champions League is $1,000, but several owners have reached out for a "slow draft" with a higher price point and the highest prizes possible. Led by Steve Jupinka, we already have seven owners who have requested a spot in this league. Let's give it a try and give those owners looking for the ultimate DC experience something to really play for.

Here's the details again:
15 teams
50 rounds
8 hours per pick
starting late February
Ultimate League prizes ($40,000, $20,000, $7,500) + part of the overall competition

NFBC Ultimate Draft Champions League
1. Andy Robinson
2. Steve Jupinka
3. Nick Cassavetes
4. David DiDonato
5. Bill Thaler
6. Bill Phipps
7. Rusty Clark
8. David Miller

This product isn't on Registration yet, so just post your intentions here or contact me at [email protected] or at 715-254-5553. First 15 will fill this league and we'll run draft spots like every other DC. Should be a ton of fun. Thanks all.

also, any chance at getting one of these live in las vegas (and online if needed) the second weekend? that would be awesome if you could make it work.

MTM would sign up in a heartbeat so he could see my playbook for 2017

I would be interested in a live draft format for $5K on second weekend. Even if it was broke up over two days to fit into current schedule.

Personally I have issues with listed format. Even with the 90% payback I guess I have a hard time understanding the retention of $7500 for a contest that costs exactly the same to run as a $150 entry league.

The easy answer here is that money is taken out on a % basis and the high dollar contest have the highest % paybacks. If all leagues had the same rake as the $150 leagues there would be no NFBC.

That is fine, but every other high $ draft is done live where NFBC has site, food, drink and facilitator costs. Guessing these costs are significant. So I am fine with NFBC passing those costs along in the form of additional prize retention. So, personally I have no interest in competing for the same prize money while missing out on the additional perks that come with drafting live.

I was asked by NFBC veterans to put up an Ultimate slow draft. I did it for them. The prizes are no different from the NFBC Ultimate Online Draft League plus I said we'd cover the expense to join the overall prize pool for this league.

Should we pay 92, 93, 95% in prizes? Are there no expenses for stats (we don't own them anymore), back-end software, credit card fees for those who don't want to pay by check (3%)? As Joe said, yes we do have a set percentage payback on each contest so that at the end of the day our business can make a slight profit. For this league it looks better without the live event expenses, but then a $1300 Auction is basically a break even event with all of the live event expenses. Hopefully it all balances out where everyone wins.

I'm willing to support this offering because I was told there was strong support for it. If there isn't or if we made a mistake with prizes then we'll understand and learn from it. Thanks for the feedback.

Greg,

What if we all agree to pay by check can we throw the 3% back in?

Thanks David. Now ONLY 6 SPOTS LEFT in the debut NFBC $5,000 Draft Champions League. We will be using the Ultimate League payouts and we'll make this part of the overall championship so that there's even more prize money available. We'll start this draft in late February, so plan accordingly.

Here's the current signup list for this debut DC:

NFBC Ultimate Draft Champions League
1. Andy Robinson
2. Steve Jupinka
3. Nick Cassavetes
4. David DiDonato
5. Bill Thaler
6. Joe Martens
7. Bill Phipps
8. Rusty Clark
9. David Miller
10. Mark Srebro (tentative)

Greg,

Thinking about this league, I would not like to participate in this league please withdrawal me from the list. Sorry I did not look at the payout structure harder before I signed up. Best of luck to the players in the league, see you in vegas!

Kindest regards,
Joe Martens

Greg/Tom....
Looks like not enough interest to get this finished?
If so, any plans for a different/higher price point dc but lower than this(e.g., $1000, $2500?)
Trying to plan

Thanks!

We will revive Max Ogden's $1,000 DC league to start Tuesday, Feb. 21st and hopefully fill another $1,000 DC in March. Look for more details on this one later today. Max isn't returning to this league, but I've heard from others who want to continue this fun, fun league. I'll get it going later today. Thanks all.

Yeah, I hate to say it but I think this league is going to be tough to fill going forward. It was a good idea and next year we'll definitely get it on Registration to start the season. That's on us for not getting that added, but there's a reason for that. Just this year. Thanks all and we'll move forward from this league.
