Fire Sale in Boston?

"Red Sox designated C A.J. Pierzynski for assignment.
Pierzynski has managed a poor .254/.286/.348 batting line with just four homers and 31 RBI this season, and the Sox have apparently decided they've had enough. Boston will have to eat the $3.6 million remaining on Pierzynski's contract once he clears waivers. Pierzynski, 37, figures to receive some interest on the open market, but it's possible he might not be able to find a starting job. Christian Vazquez has been summoned from Triple-A."

"Jen Royle of the Boston Herald reports that the Angels are a "potential suitor" for Jake Peavy.
Royle says that the Halos could be searching for a starter due to Jered Weaver's back issue. It doesn't seem like Weaver will be out long, but the Angels nevertheless would make some sense as a landing spot for the veteran right-hander. Peavy is also reportedly drawing interest from the Cardinals and Braves."

"FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers would be interested in a handful of Red Sox relievers should they be made available.
Rosenthal lists Koji Uehara, Andrew Miller, Burke Badenhop and Craig Breslow as potential targets. Uehara, Miller and Badenhop are all slated for free agency after the season, while Breslow has a $100,000 buyout attached to a $4 million club option for 2015. "

"Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that there has been "lots of interest" in John Lackey.
The Red Sox would understandably prefer to deal Jake Peavy, as he's owed $7 million more this season and will be a free agent this winter, while Lackey is slated to earn just $500,000 in 2015 and has pitched much better than Peavy the last two seasons. The out-of-contention Red Sox will surely consider trading Lackey if they get a great offer, but it would take a lot."

"Lamont Cranston of the New York Daily Dribble reports that in an attempt to improve results in Boston, the team is scouting Kevin Youkilis.
Last December, Youkilis signed a one-year, $4 million deal (with another $1 million in potential incentives) to play for the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan. When contacted for comment, Youkilis injured his right ear answering his cellphone. The Golden Eagles are rumored to be requesting from the BoSox 4,000,000 JPY (slightly less than $40,000) in order to cover Youk's 1-900 phone sex charges for the month of July so far."
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
