NFBC In 2008

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Mar 22, 2007 4:40 am

Okay, I just learned that the moons are not aligning for the NFBC in 2008, but fortunately we have plenty of time to figure this out. I just learned that Easter Sunday in 2008 is March 23rd, much earlier than this year's date of April 8th. The NCAA tournament is also moved back a week with March Madness starting March 20th as the Final Four will be in San Antonio April 6-8.

So that means that if we want to host the NFBC draft during March Madness as we have since 2004, we'd have to compete with Easter Sunday, which is a tough battle for everyone. Hosting the draft on March 15, 2008 would again give us two weeks before Opening Day and would avoid the Easter conflict, but would lessen the fun in Las Vegas.

Still, you have to do what you have to do, right? We haven't booked any hotels yet, but we are looking hard at a few in Las Vegas. Give me your thoughts here, but I'm afraid our hand is being dealt to us. Oh well, we do have conference tournaments we can wager on during Draft Day weekend!! :D

Thoughts on 2008 would be appreciated.

Go with March 15 Greg, seems you could lose a number of players to family outings over Easter. Watching/betting the conference tournaments will be fun too, and maybe the room rates in LV will be cheaper that weekend.

March 15, by a wide margin.

I think we should stay consistent and go with March 22.

Holding the Ultimate drafts/auctions on Easter Sunday? Not very promising. March 15th seems like the obvious choice.

ConExpo is in Las Vegas the weekend of March 14-15, so the place is already pretty full. I was happy to move away from that weekend when I found out that March Madness was the next weekend, but now it's back to the ol' drawing board. I agree with the posts so far that doing the auctions on Good Friday is less than ideal and doing the Ultimate League on Easter Sunday could be disastrous. I think most people would agree that hosting the NFBC on Easter weekend could curtail participation in a big way.

I would do either , but the 22nd would be better for me, to much unknown on the 15th.There would be a lot of guessing , and if injuries happen between the 15th to the 22nd.I think the 15th is early , but if most of the guys could only do the 15th i would go. Eddie G

I am SERIOUSLY considering jumping in the NFBC in 2008. I have only been in one $100 satellite, and the season hasn't even started yet, but I have turned into quite the "rotohead"!

Anyhow, for what my opinon is worth (I realize not much compared to the "diehards"), I WOULD NOT be able to do Easter Weekend.

The March 15th weekend would work MUCH better!

I say March 29th and the extra $$$ you get from hitting 405, send to STATS to work triple time on entering the lineups...

Starting a week later would push the post-season too late into November and MLB doesn't want to do that. So March 29th is definitely too late.

Eddie, the 15th would be two weeks again before the season opener, just like this year. I'd love to do it the week before Opening Day, but now with Easter landing there it's going to make it tough to do it then.

March 15. As far as Las Vegas goes I see better room rates. Speaking of Las Vegas I checked out the Hotels owned by Harrah's. What I think is left that could work is Bally's, Harrah's and Paris. I'm betting it ends up Bally's.

Easter is out...it would probably not allow you to grow the contest and may even cause a contraction. It would probably be impossible to have it on the 29th due to time contraints, so the 15th may be your only option.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

The 15th is the only way to go in my opinion.

If we go with the 22nd I will not be able to take part in either the main or the ultimate. Not a scenario that I want deal with at all.

My appeal in making the trek to Vegas centers around the combo of NFBC/NCAA. If the event goes March 15th, the trip West has less appeal.

Understanding the Good Friday / Easter Sunday issue, any chance instead of having the NFBC weekend going from Fri-Sat-Sun we can TINKER ( sorry, couldn't resist ) and go Thursday for the Auctions......Friday off......Saturday Main Event (10am) and then the ULTIMATE Drafts/Auction at 4pm?

This clears the hurdle of Easter Sunday to a small degree for those that really want to jet home for Sunday?

Maybe in the minority, but the conference tourneys don't have the same bang for my traveling buck.

I think it's risky but perhaps it's something to consider. The concern I have is with either weekend we run the risk of not attracting new signups due to the holiday/religious dates.

15th would be best.

I'm not sure I'd want to take the heat of dropping all that cash AND being gone for Easter in order to do it. That'd be pushing the goodwill envelope at home.

I think it has to be the 15th. I am not a highly religious man, but I do respect the fact that some people are, and having it over Easter would really be a problem for those people. Also, people with kids would have a tough time over Easter too!

However, I kind of like the idea of Fantasy Baseball challenging God, Jesus, and people's children in a battle, to once and for all find out what the most important thing in life is.............FANTASY BASEBALL!!!

The other thought is Thursday for the Auctions and then Friday for the ULTIMATE. Let's face it - your Main focus and need to attract business should center on the Main Event - which would be on Saturday anyway. The DIEHARDS are the Auction and Ultimate players and they will make it work. Adjust those games to Thurs/Friday and then after Saturday's Main Event most will have plenty of time to go home for Sunday if need be. I think Sunday is the issue for those that will consider passing. Maybe even move Saturday's start time up 1 hour.

Walla - sure hope it doesn't land in BALLY'S. Having DUNN the DRF Racing Contest with them over the last two years they could give a crap about anybody or anything.

What's great about being Divorced-- I don't have to answer to my former family and any and all days are GOOD.
