Re: Hot Stove
There is one aspect to all of this, however, that depresses me. Look at the big activity we've had so far. Thus, before we get to Spring Training, I count about half of the teams as having no chance to win, and who seemingly are in or on the verge of a rebuild, or who just tread water content to be...

Re: Hot Stove
Dan - What do you think of Familia to the Mets for 3/$30M? I saw that and temporarily forgot that they had signed Diaz. (I'm now bummed because I drafted Familia twice as a future closer. Oh, well. Win some, lose some.) Lot of money for the Mets to spending on a set-up guy. Guess they're in it to wi...

Re: Hot Stove
If I'm Tampa, I wouldn't trade Bauers heads-up for Diaz, let alone throw in an extra player and $5M. Would not be surprised to see Bauers outplay Diaz in 2019 and every year thereafter. A great trade by Cleveland in my opinion. Improved 1B and LF, and now they can keep J-Ram at 3B and Kipnis at 2B. ...

Re: Hot Stove
While I agree that the Phillies overpaid for McCutchen, both in terms of dollars and years, it is not a horrible signing for them. Given how low their overall commitments are, I do not see the McCutchen signing as impeding them going after Harper or Machado. In other words, they had extra money to b...

Re: Hot Stove
Charlie Morton to Tampa Bay for 2 years/$30 million. While I'm not sure that this is a great value, and it could make things tougher for my Yankees if Morton stays healthy and pitches well, I love this signing just to see Tampa Bay spending money to stay competitive with Boston and New York. It is g...

Re: Writers and the Hall
I know I shouldn't get worked up about HOF selections, but I truly feel bad for the guys who are far more deserving than Baines who have been passed up time and time again. I do not remember Pinson and, honestly, but for your posts over the years, I'm not sure I ever would have heard of him. That's ...

Re: Writers and the Hall
Harold Baines? That's the best you can do, Hall? Harold Baines. Seriously. I give. Had the same reaction, Dan. This seems like one of the weakest selections in recent memory. Is this the Hall of the Just Really Good? Baines was a solid hitter for many, many years. He never was among the best of his...

Re: Hot Stove
I agree with everything that has been said so far, including that the Mariners probably got the better of the Cano deal and that the Goldy trade seems fair for both teams (it could work out quite nicely for Arizona if Weaver and/or Kelly develops). I also agree that the Hot Stove season is off to a ...

Re: Current Site Issues
I frequently draft from my iPhone when working or traveling. With the two hour drafts and the shorter clock time after Round 30, the Que and Auto drafting is imperative. When I load up my Que (iPhone) it is impossible to move players around once the Que exceeds the screen visibility. It needs to be...

Re: Modern Day Drafting
Hey, Dan. I need a mental break in my work day, so I'll take a stab at describing the allure of Trea Turner. I grabbed Turner early in one league last year and, while he under-performed his draft position, he was not the reason I lost that league. In fact, he had a pretty solid year, although admitt...

Re: NFBC Returning To The Stewart Hotel In New York In March
I love the people in New York but I was very disappointed that we had two auctions right next to each other in that small room. Poor planning on the NFBC part and then wanted to hear nothing of our suggestions to improve it. Something needs to be fixed for me to want to come back. Kent, I addressed...

Re: The NFBC Live Events Tentative Schedule For 2019
Additionally, can we see the schedule that is planned for the live events in NYC especially since this year the weekend should be a bigger draw than years past due the one Vegas week rather than two? I would also like to see the tentative planned schedule for all of the on-line events especially th...

Re: The NFBC Live Events Tentative Schedule For 2019
Greg - Sounds great. Appreciate the effort to get an attractive room rate at Park MGM. I'll hold off on booking a hotel and wait for that rate. Not sure if this is linked to finalizing the hotel, but do you have the list of the specific leagues that will be offered in Vegas by date and time, similar...

Re: Welcome To The 2019 NFBC Season - Our 16th Season!
Wow is right! Lots of stuff to digest here. First overall impression is that everything sounds, well, great! Big kudos on the Draft Championship improvements, which are my favorites. Love the reduced overnight pause, the shortening of the clock for the last 20 rounds, and putting owners who time-out...

Re: Jason Duponte Wins New York Ultimate League & $40,000
Did my eyes deceive me, or did we get a Jason Duponte sighting tonight on Fox in the bottom of the first inning cheering on Chris Sale from the stands in Fenway?
Jason, congrats on an awesome season, including (but not limited to) an impressive victory in the MTM Ultimate. See you in March!

This league has an Overall Main Event Winner. Two or three multiple Main Event winners. Main Event cashers. Two or three NFBC Media types. Re: Tiebreaker
My understanding is that if Dodgers-Rockies and/or Cubs-Brewers are tied for the divisional lead after today, they will play a tie-breaker game to determine who is the division winner and who is the wild card team. My understanding also is that any tie-breaker game is considered part of the regular ...

Other things that are interesting....... Blake Snell has won 18 games. While it is true that Snell has pitched exceptionally well this season, the Wins, themselves can be considered lucky. Snell averages less than six innings per start. Leaving almost 40 percent of the fate of his leads in ball gam...

Re: Is There Interest In A $5,000 New York Auction?
Tom - I might have some interest in this; however, I want to see how this season shakes out and also take a look at the full slate of live events in NYC and Vegas before committing. I agree with Jason that Saturday night would be the best time. I also could probably make early-afternoon on Sunday wo...

There is a time and place for walks, and a time and place for extending the zone and trying to drive the ball. Start of the 9th inning, down two runs, first guy up should be looking to get on base, by hit or walk or whatever. Votto seems to have the same approach regardless of the situation. He has ...

True. It is incredibly hard to be hitting on all cylinders, and even harder to do so at the right time. Could the Red Sox be peaking prematurely? Who knows, but they sure look tough to beat right now. Seems like all of the contending teams have at least one weakness heading into the playoffs. Mike

Good stuff, Dan. While I would have agreed with your list of first rounders in its entirety a few weeks ago, I'm thinking Luis Severino is slipping as he continues to get hit. Not sure whether he is tipping his pitches, hurt, or simply failing to execute, but as this period of crappy performance (fo...
