Re: Bryce Harper Called Up
Starting him on 1 of 2, don't need him yet on one, but had Eduardo Nunez in at DH on the other and am in decent shape in SB. Figured there's not much Nunez would do that would cause us to be that upset if we left him on the bench; while Harper could easily go 0 for the weekend, he could hit a bomb t...

Re: The Win
Aside from just being change adverse as a whole, I think most people would be against the switch to QS because the stat itself isn't very telling. 6+ IP with 3 ER or less, that's fine if the guy is going 7+ innings, but 6 IP with 3 ER, that's a 4.50 ERA, how is that "Quality", seems pretty mediocre ...

Who was the last guy to become a closer less than two calendar years out of college? Chad Cordero was another. Cordero didn't close until the 2nd half of his 2nd year, but he's on the list. Every single counter example has been a #1 draft pick who played for a BCS conference, World Series contendin...

Who was the last guy to become a closer less than two calendar years out of college? Billy Koch maybe, and he was an absolute college superstar (#4 overall pick -- Reed was a 3rd rounder). not certain if they meet your criteria, but off the top of my head; street and then storen. Street's a good on...

Re: Proposed NFBC Online Championship Prize Structure
Agreed- but clearly articulate it up front, not buried in the "rules". I feel the same way, in as much it does matter if there is 600 vs 1000 or 390 vs 420. When someone signs up they want some certainty in what the odds are. These are not $1 or $5 dollar games of chance like lotto, but there is a ...

Re: Proposed NFBC Online Championship Prize Structure
Here is what I would see as a equitable compromise between all three ideas: 1st - $60,000 2nd - $15,000 3rd - $7,500 4th - $5,000 5th - $3,000 6th - $2,000 7th - $1,500 8th - $1,000 9th - $1,000 10th - $1,000 Still allows $60,000 to Greg's point, makes 8-10 worthwhile. Thoughts ?? Pretty solid, mig...

Re: Proposed NFBC Online Championship Prize Structure
If you are dead set on giving the top guy $60k, just eliminate the 8th-10th place "throwaway" prizes and spread those to 6th/7th. You then have $1250 extra for those two slots, make them $2250 and $1500. The whole key to any payout structure is a consistent/fair jumps in prizes from place to place. ...

From Fangraphs (MLB data): Hector Santiago: Average FB Vel: 94.5 MPH Addison Reed: Average FB Vel: 94.5 MPH Reed has regularly thrown in the minors and majors at 98 MPH plus Not sure you understand what the word "Average" means. I'm sure Santiago puts a decent amount up around 98 to have the same a...

Re: Proposed NFBC Online Championship Prize Structure
Greg, you got 864 people to sign up this year with no promise that the Overall Prize would for sure rise from $50,000 (only that additional monies would be put into the overall prizes in general). I think that shows the $50,000 prize point versus entry fee is pretty solid for the growth of this game.

You have to wonder what is up with the Washington Nationals and their young pitchers needing TJ surgery, if it indeed happens. Don't think he's in too much danger for needing Tommy John, but any time you have to go see Doctor Andy, you are on the wrong side of trouble, heading towards disaster. I t...

Re: Proposed NFBC Online Championship Prize Structure
I posted this in the main event structure ... applying the same here: Playing around with the percentages for what feels and looks right, I come up with: * pay 50% of the available pool to the overall winner * pay 40% to the rest of the top 5 * pay 10% to the rest of the top 10 How would this play ...

All I can say is "check out the Slow Draft Prizes" thread where I proposed paying 20 spots and was met with disdain. "10 is enough" was the battle cry. I assume the fantasy baseball folks are a little different than the poker folks, but maybe not. Anyway, I know I can't win either way, but the tren...

Re: Proposed NFBC Online Championship Prize Structure
I like it, aside from probably a small preference to a $60k/$20k split of the top 2, instead of 65/15. Gonna be a HUGE bummer to lose out on $50k in the last few days of a $350 buyin game if you get 2nd instead of holding onto 1st. Not that losing out on $40k is gonna be much better, but that extra...

11 teams (2 Main, 1 Auction, 3 XII, 5 OL) 7 - Mitch Moreland, Mike Minor, Aaron Harang (two value pitchers not too hot in their first starts, Harang was a last 2 round filler I was heavy on due to his early schedule, oh well, wasn't *that* bad except the WHIP total, already dropped him on all the 12...

Re: When will Montero reach 10 games at catcher?
May 15th at the latest. Olivo is 2 for 16 and they wont stick with that type of production long, Lahair coming back and them wanting them Figgins in the lineup means they need Montero catching sooner rather than later. Assuming LaHair = Carp. When Carp gets back, I could see Montero getting some ad...

Wasn't Max Scherzer the same hype? Bauer is way more in the prospect mold of a Tim Lincecum, Scherzer was hyped, but we're talking about a special pitcher here, not a guy with a straight fastball and no movement (Scherzer threw 72.5% & 71.0% fastballs his first 2 years in the majors, that's not gon...

Players who play 10 games at a new position in 2012 will be eligible at that pos...

Didn't see one this year, but have seen it before. Most I saw was a guy who took 7 Relievers (but they were mingled in throughout the 30 rounds, he didn't go nuts on the closers early). Saw two or three guys start with 3-5 Closers before they got their first Starter; and saw three or four guys start...

Re: Online Championship Team - Up for Review !
Pitching a tad bit on the weak side for a 12-teamer, especially the bullpen with the Farnsworth injury news. But there probably are very few people here who wouldn't take that 1-2-3-4 in the bag to start any draft, very nice there, Hosmer/Lawrie is next to impossible to get at that point right now i...

Re: My Best Shots at the OC Title...
That OF is going to be a mess all year, especially with Upton starting out the year on the DL. Besides that, you've got good enough pieces elsewhere, that if you if can fix that OF problem, you should be in decent shape.
