Stupid Fades and is Forgotten

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Fri Feb 16, 2018 11:47 am

I was in a draft earlier in the year, when one drafter scolded another for taking Charlie Blackmon over Bryce Harper.
I didn't get it.
Was this Harper's agent? His Mom? His online protector?
That drafter can take who he wants and if it's Charlie Blackmon over Bryce Harper, then screw you!

My Mother-in-law is a dyed in the wool Democrat.
She doesn't even know why.
All she knows is that she pulls the lever for any candidate with a 'D' by his/her name.
When something bad happened while Obama was in power, she says, "Don't blame the President"
When something bad happens when Trump is President, "It's all Trump's fault"
If Harper were a Democrat and Blackmon a Republican, she would have scolded the drafter too.

The point is that we are all different.
That's what makes our hobby so wonderful.
We have quiet and loud people in the NFBC.
We have those that tout their 'expertness' and those that rail against it.
We've had almost every kind of player possible.

A small story...
MANY, MANY years ago when the NFBC was still kinda new....
There was a drafter who had a lot of cash finishes the year before.
He was a good fella and I liked him.
But, after his year of success, it went to his head a little bit.
He would tell folks on the Message Boards that he would draft 14 hitters before drafting a single pitcher in his next draft.
And he did.
Then, he would tell all that he would draft nine pitchers before drafting a hitter in the next draft.
And he did.
He entered other drafts using his standard strategies as well.

So, what happened?
He didn't win. At all. In fact, he lost badly.
And he didn't win the next year.
Since then, he has faded from the NFBC and hasn't been heard from in MANY, MANY years.

We play in a year to year game.
Charlie Blackmon had a better year than Bryce Harper last year. Probably 2016 too.
Nobody knows who will have the better year this year.
Nobody.
This is part of the reason we keep coming back to play this wonderful game.
The characters remain the same, only the stats will change.
And what is even more amusing is that we can be smart and stupid in the same year.
One fella who won or was at the top of a Main Event, had another team that was 400th of 420.
Smart was remembered, stupid was forgotten.

Is it smarter to draft Harper or Blackmon?
I don't know.
But somebody thinks they do.
I love fantasy baseball.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
