September

Just a few thoughts about baseball in September...

The Dodgers are getting annihilated by analysts. You'd think they were one of the worst teams in baseball.
Analysts love winners.
Right now, they love the Indians.
It's always easier to analyse what is going right for a team.
They did the same for the Dodgers when they were going through their streak.
They forget that none of this really matters when the playoffs begin.

Many feel that the wild cards open up the playoffs for many teams.
And it does.
But, while every other playoff team in the American League already have 82 wins, the last playoff spot is being fought for by the Twins, Angels, Rangers, and Mariners.
Combined, their records are under .500
GO MEDIOCRITY!

In September fantasy baseball, possession is 9/10 of the law.
Meaning that if you own a category, you'll probably win that category.
It's hard to finish with a mad dash in September. Lineups are thinned and rotations are expanded with kids who remain unfaabed.
A 10 home run lead feels like 20.
Wins, already a category that humbles us, crumbles us.

For some reason, Don Mattingly feels like Dee Gordon, Marcel Ozuna, and Christian Yelich should be rested once a week in September.
They have no minor leaguers to look at.
In fact, Ichiro takes over for the outfielders.
Mattingly may be in for a long rest himself, as new owners look at other options for the Managerial post.

The New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers are 8-2 over their last 10 games.
The Red Sox just can't shake the Yankees (a good thing for fantasy owners of both teams)
Same for the Cubs and Rockies. They thought they would be cruising to their playoff positions.
But now, the Brewers are just one game from the Rox playoff position and still within striking distance of the Cubs.
Whether the Rockies or Brewers get that last playoff spot, both would be prohibitive underdogs in facing Arizona at home with either Greinke or Ray on the mound.

The best September fantasy players are usually not players on teams with playoffs clinched.
Here are some of the best players this month....

Dee Gordon- .361/10/1/5/7

Tim Anderson- .408/13/2/8/7

Jose Reyes- .323/15/5/15/6

Matt Olson- .288/16/12/20/0

And a couple of playoff bound players...

JD Martinez- .394/19/11/23/1

And look whose hitting again....

Aaron Judge- .259/19/7/16/1

In September, Corey Kluber has hurled 31 innings and given up 19 hits.
Mike Fiers has thrown nine innings....and given up 19 hits.

Matt Harvey has allowed 32 hits.
Matt Harvey has eight strike outs. a 4/1 h/k ratio....if there is such a thing

Kelvin Herrera's WHIP during September?.....3.27!

Jason Vargas has an 8.25 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in September. Vargas is 2-1 in three sttarts
Dinelson Lamet has a 2.00 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Lamet, 0-2 in his three starts

Without ties, we have 12 days of sweet misery left.
We'll miss it when it's gone.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
