Any thoughts on whether 32 is too ealy for Carlos Gonzalez? I am not so sure that I wouldn't take him #1 overall. However, the long-term track record is lacking relative to Pujols, HRam, ARod and others.

My guess is that Pujols will be a dominant number one pick, but not close to unanimous.

At the Main's, there could be as many as seven or eight different number two picks.

One thing I've noticed in the e-mail draft is that really good hitters are falling to the folks that have the 1-8 picks.

Below are the 2010 dollar values for 15 team mixed according to my "system". CarGo was #1 and by a good margin. So he obviously has the talent to be worthy of the FIRST pick, let alone the second.

Then it is a matter of personal strategy and evaluation. Based on his track record, how likely is he to repeat or at minimum, only slightly regress, etc.

Dan, what did you see in Kemp to keep him in the Top 25? Since we're waiting for the next pick, let's get some commentary on that last pick! :D

Kemp is more of an athlete than a baseball player. A better fantasy player than field player. He is susceptible to bonehead running plays, throws to the wrong base, and with all that speed, is not a very good base runner.

Management around him, seem to conspire to make 2010 the most uncomfortable year possible for Kemp. With the Manager leaving, and some of the coaching staff quitting, and with the possiblity of a trade, Kemp should go into 2011 with a 'brand new start' type of attitude.

For fantasy purposes, he can still be a monster. Versatile enough, that Torre could not decide where to put him in the lineup.

With more stability next year and an off season not spent dodging the paparazzi, I expect Kemp to be a big factor in fantasy next year.

Here's what Doughboys wanted to say, but he doesn't want the old-schoolers knowing he has secretly come over to the dark side.

If you told me in April that Kemp would end the season with 28 HR and 19 SB, while I would be a little disappointed he dropped his steals total, I wouldn't have been too upset since in general steals totals are a little volatile.

What depressed his value was his low batting average. Granted, BA is always a risk with Kemp as he sustains a .300 level with a contact rate below 80% due to a much higher than average BABIP, but since he has maintained that elevated BABIP for the past several years, it can be considered a skill and therefore "expected".

His low average was due to two factors, His contact rate dipped to 72% and his BABIP fell about 50 points. I am personally more concerned about the increase in strikeouts, as his line drive rate was normal, suggesting there was just some misfortune on balls in play, though it can be argues he did not hit the ball as hard as in the past based on less contact. That is not only was there less contact, but maybe also weaker contact.

Lower BA means fewer runs, RBI and SB opportunities, so there was a domino effect.

Also, Kemp lost 2 SB early on by overliding after originally being safe as well as one prety obviously blown call, so his confidence as well as Torre's may have impacted chances.

To me, the skills are still there. It is all about the batting average with Kemp. While I am concerned about the increase in strikeouts, I expect a bounceback but with an average closer to .285 than .300, dropping him from a risky top-10 pick to a top-20 pick, with top-10 upside.

Whether we're old school or numbers driven, this is what I like most about fantasy baseball.

Fantasy baseball can be approached in different ways, and yet, like our analysis of Kemp, we still arrive at the same place.

Hey Dan, as Official-Commissioner-For-This-Mock-That-Doesn't-Mean-Anything-But-Will-Be-Entertaining-and-Enlightening, perhaps you can collect everyone's email and then ping them if they don't respond after a day or two?

I have most of the e-mail addresses, but that doesn't always work either. I e-mailed Don a couple of times, since there was no response, lets pair ARod with Prince Fielder to give him no worries about power after two rounds.

Lawrence Liebman has got next.

Is it me, or does it look awfully good to be in back half of the draft. Imagine pairing a first round pick with Texeira?
