Earned Run

Post by Joe Sambito » Tue May 05, 2009 7:13 am

For all you official scorers out there, I have a question based on a scenario in the Hou'Wash game today.

Top of the 5th Irod makes an out. Blum singles. Oswalt sacrifices but is safe on the fielder's choice. Bourn doubles both guys score. Keppinger walks. Berkman grounds out (what should have been teh third out of the inning). Lee walks. Tejada doubles, two guys score. Pence flies out. There was no error in the inning so are all 4 runs earned? If you reconstruct the inning with a sac bunt form Oswalt, then 1 run is earned.

Thoughts?

I really don't care about the earned runs all that much, I just thought it to be an odd scenario. ALthough I do own Olsen on a couple of teams. ;)

Kind of an oddity that Oswalt scoring is an earned run. I had never real thought about this scenario before.
