NFBC All-Time Top Money Winners

Okay, Tom created an Excel document recently that lists all of our NFBC money winners for our live events through the first five years of our competition. We decided to just do the live events for now because some folks do a whole lot more satellite leagues than others and thus the money winnings would be a bit thrown off. We will add those later and update our data, but we thought it would be fun to show our career money leaders through the live events first.

For the record, David DiDonato is our leader as he has had a REMARKABLE four-year run. He's won a pair of Ultimate League titles, two NFBC league titles and the overall NFBC title.

Shawn Childs and Stephen Jupinka are the only owners to win three NFBC league titles in five years. That's also pretty remarkable. Steve is also our Lifetime Standings leader as he has finished 10th overall, 18th, 35th, 54th and 2nd through our first five seasons. Incredible.

Again, we will add the satellite league winnings later and provide a separate listing there and then a combined listing. The more data we can compile and slice and dice the better, but it's best to also keep the live draft winnings separate, too. Believe it or not, I don't think David DiDonato has ever done a satellite league with us and Shawn rarely does any too, so it wouldn't be fair to just throw all of the winnings together at once. We'll separate them and later combine them in a separate post.

One piece of data we probably don't have is the number of leagues each person has entered. We keep track of winnings, not total leagues entered. So finding the percentage of dollars won by leagues entered would be tough for us right now, but I know David leads that category by far!!

Congrats all and we can now update this list each year going forward and we'll do the same thing for football.

Some facts that may be only of interest to me.

Shawn Childs has three Top 10 overall finishes in the five years of our event.

Terry Haney, Mark Srebro and Dan Kenyon have two Top 10 overall finishes. Haney finished first overall in 2007.

David Longood has won two Ultimate Auction titles in the four years we've offered the $5,000 events.

Shawn Childs and Ken Magner have finished second in an Ultimate league twice.

WOW!! This is juicy stuff. Thanks Greg and Tom for putting this list together. Everyone that plays this game is here to win cold hard cash! And this list sheds some pretty interesting light on who the truly successful players are. We all know who the 100k winners are, rightfully so, and Childs, Jupinka, Gillis and Srebro are houehold names. But, this list brings some other names to light. Longood, Fleming, Norred, Deterra, and Morgan. I've never heard them mentioned before. These guys must have multiple big wins to have earned that amount of money. This is why a list like this is really cool, it seems like certain people get more press because they are active here on the message boards when there are others that are right with them in terms of success, but I guess because they are not active on the boards, they get no pub. Who wold have thought that Childs is not the top money earner outside of the 100k winners? Is Longood a Rhode Island guy too?

I cannot believe DiDonato has won over 200k!!!! That's unreal...You guys should do special article on him for the next magazine. Ask him to provide his strategy:)

Good post Cindy. It's definitely interesting to look over the history of our event and see the names of some people who have consistently done well. That definitely speaks to their skill as fantasy baseball players.

That's a good point GG. It would be nice to see five separate lists:

1 - overall money winners

2 - main event money winners

3 - the high stakes (super/ultimate) money winners

4 - satellite money winners

5 - auction league money winners

This would break down areas of expertise because it appears that some players excel in the main event structure, while others excel in the individual league structure. And then there are probably some that do well in both. One thing does stand out to me after looking at these lists. Take GG for example, he has turned in back to back strong main events and has only earned 14k for that accomplishment. Then you have some others that have earned a hell of a lot more in the other contests. I know that the stronger competition and steep entry fees are deterrents to enter the supers/ultimates, but it appears that is where the real money is being won.

Can some of the players that play both the main event and the high stakes leagues chime in on this? I think that is an interesting discussion. The lure of the 100k is the reason to be in the main event, but if you don't finish in the top 2-3 overall, there is not much profit to be had. But again, how many of us have $2500 or 5k to throw around in the high stakes lgs. And even if you could afford it, how confident do you need to be in your ability to risk it? I'm really curious how others feel about this.

"Cindy" is on the right track. What are the total entry fees for the top money winners???????? For that matter, throw in the flight tickets, motel charges, cabs, etc. The more disposable income one has, the more monies one can win. Right or wrong?

But as far as the flight, motel and other expenses, this is all part of the experience of the draft/NFBC. Hopefully this is fun for all of you and maybe even a vacation for some of you. And if you happen to win, my goodness, you get to expense some of this toward your winnings.

You can do the math on some of the big-ticket items yourself. We've had four years of Ultimates and one year of Supers. So let's say David did four Ultimates and four main events: That equals $20,000 for the Ultimates and $5,200 or so for the main events. So he's turned $25,000+ into a nice investment. Same for some of the others at the top of this list.

Do you think any of them would be willing to manage teams that others financially back for a cut of the profits? That could be something to help grow your business model. And really with the stock market and economy the way it is, I'd sooner invest some money in these events. What do you think?

I also agree with league's entered and money spent in leagues.The main events are easy especially for the owners who have played 5 years it's 5 year's for all.So that would be 1300 dollars times 5 years which for charted members would be 6.500.dollars.

Now for auctions some guys like Shawn have played in all ten AMERICAN and National.So that's ten shot's at winning money .Myself have played all 5 american league auctions but only one national league so thats 6 tries at the money .Im sure their is other's who are between 5 and 10 but it makes a difference.

I for one shouldn't be playing in all these leagues. I just happen to win some money the first year and decided to reinvest my winnings.

As for flight tickets and hotel rooms, I was already booked in Vegas when I found out about the events. I had been going for March Madness for four years prior to the start of the NFBC. Now I have another reason to go.

Will you be updating the life-time standings with the "asterik" to signify a main event league winner for the 2008 league winners soon? It will be interesting to see how many different main event league winners there have been in the first 5 years. Thanks.

bjoak, Luck counts a lot! You get this many skilled players together luck has to be a big factor. There are some players that are more skilled than others. I don't think any of these lists will tell you who they are. Although many are on these lists many are missing and some like me who don't belong in the same group as the better skilled players got lucky and made them.

Believe me nobody will pick me as favorite in any auction next year. Heck I won't pick myself.
