Post by Tom Kessenich » Mon Aug 20, 2007 2:40 am

Congratulations to Matt Mickle, whose Berkshire Juggernauts team in New York League 7 led the way in the NFBC last week with 3,198 points.

A good week from Lance Berkman (.400-3-5) led the way offensively. Moises Alou (.348-2-7), Vladimir Guerrero (.345-1-8) and Mark Reynolds (.375-2-4) also had good weeks at the plate. On the mound, Chad Gaudin and Jake Peavy combined for 25 strikeouts while Takashi Saito and J.J. Putz combined for six saves.

For finishing first last week, Mickle wins a Cal Ripken Jr. Autographed Orioles Breaking Through Display Piece courtesy of Upper Deck Authenticated. Congratulations again to Matt and good luck to everyone in the NFBC this week.

Matt Mickle Wins Week 20 Prize

Fantasy owners expect their big dogs to bring it every week during the baseball season. It’s when the role players excel that good weeks become special ones.

Matt Mickle and his co-manager Leo Pannisco found that out last week.

Due in large part to big weeks from role players such as Mark Reynolds and Chad Gaudin, their Berkshire Juggernauts team in New York League 7 led the way in the NFBC last week with 3,198 points.

A good week from Lance Berkman (.400-3-5) led the way offensively. Moises Alou (.348-2-7), Vladimir Guerrero (.345-1-8) and Reynolds (.375-2-4) also had good weeks at the plate. On the mound, Gaudin and Jake Peavy combined for 25 strikeouts while Takashi Saito and J.J. Putz combined for six saves.

“What a week for the Juggernauts,” Mickle said. “We had a few surprises with Gaudin and Reynolds. They were last-minute additions to the starting lineup. Then our horses had great weeks on top of the role players.”

That type of balance was a critical part of Mickle and Pannisco’s Draft Day strategy.

“We tried to get a balanced team with as much value as we could,” Mickle said. “We set our foundation early with Vlad, Berkman, (Chone) Figgins, Peavy and (J.J.) Putz. We then looked for value and balance.”

Mickle and Pannisco are both coaches at their local high schools in Pittsfield, MA. Matt is a JV basketball coach while Leo is a varsity soccer coach.

For finishing first last week, Mickle wins a Cal Ripken Jr. Autographed Orioles Breaking Through Display Piece courtesy of Upper Deck Authenticated.
