Vegas MTM Party 2018: Episode III, Friday, 3/23 9:00 P.M.!

Post by Baseball Furies » Tue Feb 13, 2018 1:41 am

Now that the Bellagio is again official this year thanks to Greg's conniving and back alley dealings with the Vegas chapter of the NJ Mafia (and whoever he had to sleep with) :P , I again wanted to bring this back for my third installment, and put something together this time for Friday evening the 23rd after the completion of most of the live events of the day. So I am hoping that as many of my fellow fanatics and NFBC brethren will put this on your schedules and join me for a great evening of late night festivities. For all of you who attended last year, a great time was had by all as usual. This being Vegas, and with so many of us getting together who really don't get a chance to see each other much let alone ever meet in person in the first place, there again needs to be a party worthy of the NFBC and in the true MTM tradition of fun, food, drink, orgies, human sacrifice, bestiality, and maybe even some Jazzercise...okay maybe not all of these things, but we'll see how it goes.

This year I petitioned Greg on our behalf, and he very graciously and generously has agreed to step up and foot the bill for us for what will hopefully be the same penthouse suite with the spectacular lake view and balconies as we had last year. 8-) There will plenty of room to mingle, bullshit, trash-talk, take photos, get draft advice from me, etc. at our leisure for as long as you'd like that evening. There will be music, beverages, cigars, and plenty of snacks... maybe even some door prizes if I can pry a few things away for us from the NFBC merchandise store. And I'll again have some draft results up on the big screen, T.V. for all of us to debate about, especially the MTM Ultimate which will have taken place the week before in NYC. There will again be a full open bar like last year, and to save money on the catering and to bring the cost down for everyone to make it more accessible, there won't be catered food, but as I said, there will be plenty of snacks, pizza/wings etc. which I'm sure will do just fine for the "discerning palates" of this group as it did last year.

Now as much as I'd love to foot the bill for this little soiree being the extremely magnanimous individual that I am, it's not going to be possible this year until I win my first overall Main Event title this season. So this time next year, it will be all on me to celebrate my great victory and crowning as the people's champion. 8-) [EDITOR'S NOTE: Mike said the same thing last year, and he didn't win jack shit.] So this being said, based on what it ran me last year minus the price of the room, it'll only going to be about $75 a head this year which includes the mandatory elevator attendant, the bartender, the beverages, the food, and gratuities. I may also add a $25 per head tolerance service fee for all the bullshit that I need to put up with just to make this thing go down without a hitch, including my attorney's legal fees for dealing with Greg.

So if you're planning on being in Vegas for the big second weekend, and would like to be a part of the festivities, please post your name to this thread. I will then decide if you have my permission to attend. :P

So let's get this rolling! I'd like to have about 30 minimum, and we can have as many as 50, so the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. All are welcome, including significant others if you would like to subject them to this type of torture. :P I'll be sending out some personal invites via texts and PM's, but let's get things started here.

Nothing like a nice lake view of the fountains from the balcony while you're out smoking a premium cigar perhaps?

The RSVP's are starting to roll in! 8-) It's going to be a blast, so who else wants in to spend some quality time with me? Not like everyone gets to have that privilege everyday, so why not take advantage of this and enhance your Vegas NFBC experience? It may in fact change your life. 8-) Text, PM, or post to this thread to let me know. Thanks!

Have to catch up with my texts, but just added the "Guest of Honor". He gets free admission on me...and all the ball-busting that he can handle for his triumphant return to Vegas this year. :P

Awesome addition to the festivities! Rumor has it Dan Kenyon will be holding court as follows:

10:15 pm to 10:30 pm - Making the NFBC great again ... why we should all just go back to using draft board stickers

10:30 pm to 10:45 pm - The great 48 ... players that would have to be off the board before I’d even consider drafting Joey Votto

10:45 pm to 5:00 am - Fantasy baseball etiquette ... the who, what, where, why and how of using the word “value” in casual conversation

 In all seriousness, very much looking forward to making Dan’s acquaintance after missing him last year and seeing everyone else at the MTM Party! Should be a blast!

Seriously, if anyone is on the fence about attending, jump off on the right side. Unfortunately I will not be in Vegas this year or I would certainly be there as I had a blast last year. Certain things are worth the price of admissions:

1) Confirmation that MtM does not shout everything he says in bold-faced type.
2) Meet MtM wife. A very nice lady who I truly enjoyed having a conversation with last year (though I wonder what a woman of such grace and deportment is doing with a mook like MtM).
3) Meet Dan Kenyon. A little known fact...Dan was Charles Schultz's inspiration for one of his characters "Pigpen" though not because he was dirty. Dan shows up in a cloud of Dorito dust.
4) Watch Dan Semsel fall asleep, then wake up and shout a random third-baseman's name.
5) Grab a fine cigar on the balcony, look out over the Bellagio fountain, and wonder what the less privileged are doing just then.

In short, good fun, good fellowship, and a room full of people to take baseball with. Show me where you can get that anywhere else?
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I told Mike that if I am the 'Guest of Honor', you must have really gotten together a crappy guest list!
Which is great because I'm right at home with any person as long as they know their baseball.
I'll be at a slight disadvantage in that the party starts around my bedtime.
I say that, but an hour past my bedtime last night, my wife asked, "What are you still doing up?"
I told her that I was in an online draft and this guy always times out and that I had to wait seven minutes and 48 seconds so I can make my pick.
May as well have told her that I was watching porn from the eye roll.

Seriously, I am looking forward to seeing everybody in Las Vegas.
The last time I was there, the Anthony Brothers had to lead me out of the Bellagio. I get lost in that place!
There is a form of magic in being there though.
Being in the Main Event and hearing 10 different facilitators echoing 'Mike Trout' and knowing that the next 30 players picked, will be THE players we will be following for the rest of the year....That is, until we shitcan them.

As Wayne said, if you are on the fence about coming to Las Vegas, get your ass out there.
For a movie, Baseball Heaven was in Iowa, in March, it is in Las Vegas.
Some complain that they never get to talk baseball at home. For that weekend, it is the only language spoken.
Can you imagine?
You can say, "The humidor in Arizona may hinder Paul Goldschmidt's numbers this year."
After that comment, in Las Vegas, you'll get head nods and responses.
At home, glazed eyes and people looking like they want to be somewhere else.

All that said, I can't wait to meet the new and old alike.
It's like a second family.
The only difference being that I look FORWARD to this reunion. :D
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

I ended that night with five 3B eligible players on the roster. Fortunately one could cover MI and one could go into the OF. Stayed in the top half of the league all season and made a couple charges toward a money spot. Shocking what you can do on 2 hours sleep in the previous 48...this was the night after drafting a Main Event team while driving from Phoenix to Vegas after my flight was diverted on final approach

Great stuff, Wayne. Will see you in NY for the festivities the week prior. Wish you could be at this one as well. Although you did forget a few like:

6) Joe Anthony arriving last minute from a teen pop idol's concert and blaming it all on his wife, even though it was obviously him who wanted to see Brittany Spears.

7) Steve Jupinka shoving his face and his pockets with as many expensive cigars, food, and drink as possible within the first 30 minutes of the party to make sure that he gets his money's worth before excusing himself prior to 11:00 p.m. to be in bed in order to get his mandatory eight of hours of sleep before Saturday's live events...and his wife finds out where he really is.

8) Watching Gaetan Lavoie trying to pay MTM in Canadian in dollars again, leaving the party to find an ATM, and then finding out he's back in Montreal with a severe case of amnesia.

9) Dr. Matt Shepherd again showing up after realizing much to his surprise last year that there are in fact "special" guys other than him who attend this thing, and even a few who actually believe he is a doctor despite seeing the way he drinks.

10) Getting to hob-nob with KJ Duke, the social butterfly that he is, and hearing all about his favorite topics like his dogs, his stock portfolio, Bitcoin, and his favorite red wines (which of course won't be available at the party) until you find yourself lapsing into a stupor.

All this and more if anyone else would like to join us for what is sure to be another memorable evening as really is any time
spent with me. So if you haven't reached out to me yet, just add your name to this thread if you want in! 8-)

Whether you like it or not Dough, you have been designated the "Guest of Honor" (someone had to be it, and Lindy was my last hope until he backed out due to what he termed "prior pig commitments" which I think was just code for he has finally had enough of me in person). I have even rented a sedan chair for your triumphant entrance. Just trying to hire enough guys to be able to lift you and your Doritos.

Nice to see so many of the usual suspects returning for the festivities again this year, but it'd be nice to get some fresh blood joining us. Keep in mind that this party is open to any NFBC'er who will be out in Vegas this second weekend, so seriously consider joining some of your veteran brethren out there if you can. Going to be a great night as always! 8-)

Good job Mike. Let's have fun with this on Friday night.

We are close to securing the same room we had last year and if we get that maybe we can even start earlier in the day with some 12-team drafts. It's a unique setting to host these in. I have the Penthouse Suite that day as well for the 12-teamers, but the more the merrier in the room overlooking the fountains. It's a stunning room.

Keep the party members coming and let's make Las Vegas Weekend 2 VERY SPECIAL!! :D
