2016 NFBC Early Draft Results

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Nov 30, 2015 9:22 am

The drafting season has begun in the NFBC and every year we like to share a few of those results with our NFBC community. In fairness to those paying for these leagues, we keep complete results private and only those owners who have signed up for 2016 NFBC events have access to the Average Draft Position lists this off-season. Those ADPs will be on your team pages once we have five completed drafts.

Still, we want to whet your appetites for the drafts, so we will show the first 6 rounds of most NFBC drafts that are held this off-season. This should give you an idea of the early rounds and help you in your draft preparation. Let The Games Begin everyone and good luck during the 2016 season.

What a paradigm shift at third base in just two short years.

Preceding the 2014 drafts, there were only six third basemen with ADPs in the top six rounds, and none in the first round.

Five of those top third basemen of 2014 are missing from the drafts above: Longoria, Wright, Rameriz, Headley and Lawrie. Beltre is hanging on by a thread.

Turning now to 2016. Four third basemen are being taken in the first round. New young guns...Bryant, Donaldson, Machado, Arenado. Eight new faces in the top six rounds, nine if you include Rendon.

Fresh talent. Much better players that will, given their ages, mostly continue to improve over the next few years. Third base seems to have gone from weak link to a position of strength in a relatively short period of time.

The new $217 million man - David Price - just went 34th, 34th and 37th in these three NFBC drafts. He was the 7th, 9th and 9th SP taken.

Greg,

When you post on this thread without adding more draft data, it's deflating. Like waiting on that all important phone call, phone rings, and it's Sears with a fantastic limited time offer for some vinyl siding.

Just saying.

Not sure if this comment is serious but what really do you want Greg to do, post the entire drafts? Its December 2nd. I am in one of these drafts and I don't want our entire draft posted. 6 rounds is enough to give everyone a taste of who is going where. But beyond that, its unnecessary and honestly unfair to those who are working hard with research to draft a team. 6 rounds is perfect.

I saw Greg added a message on this thread. Thought it was the 4th draft. It wasn't. The end.

It's not Christmas yet, so you can't open your presents until then!! Draft results will be coming more regularly once they start filling every day. That day isn't too far away. Stay patient, Emmett, stay patient!!

Is Polanco really a 6th rounder this year? I took him in the 8th last year and felt like I wasted a pick. He finished 99th overall

Yes SB are down league wide and he gets you 25 of those, but his lack of hr and rbi killed my otherwise solid DC team

The Snake

On her way to work one morning
Down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
"Oh well," she cried, "I'll take you in and I'll take care of you"
"Take me in oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman, " sighed the snake

She wrapped him up all cozy in a curvature of silk
And then laid him by the fireside with some honey and some milk
Now she hurried home from work that night as soon as she arrived
She found that pretty snake she'd taking in had been revived
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman, " sighed the snake

Now she clutched him to her bosom, "You're so beautiful," she cried
"But if I hadn't brought you in by now you might have died"
Now she stroked his pretty skin and then she kissed and held him tight
But instead of saying thanks, that snake gave her a vicious bite
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman, " sighed the snake

"I saved you," cried that woman
"And you've bit me even, why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now I'm going to die"
"Oh shut up, silly woman," said the reptile with a grin
"You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman, " sighed the snake
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Wow, that's a pitching heavy draft. Interesting to see four SPs go in the first round - can't recall seeing that before, at least in recent years. The heavy emphasis on pitching also knocked some pretty good hitters down into the second round. I'm liking the variability from draft to draft. Also, as noted above, I think some of the edge in drafting really high in the first round may be less this year compared to others.

1/15 Jake Arrieta
2/1 Jose Fernandez
3/15 Stephen Strasburg
4/1 Dallas Keuchel
5/15 Kenley Jansen
6/1 Craig Kimbrel

This owner has picked six of the 30 pitchers who have come off the board in this draft so far. I know people have won leagues with this approach, but it would seem like the margin of error is much thinner in the DC format.

The heavy emphasis on pitching also knocked some pretty good hitters down into the second round. I'm liking the variability from draft to draft. Also, as noted above, I think some of the edge in drafting really high in the first round may be less this year compared to others.

The guys who got to start out Arenado/McCutchen and Rizzo/Machado probably haven't stopped smiling.

Totally agree. McCutchen or Machado in the second round? Sign me up!

Well, the season has yet to play out. I don't think calling someone names over their draft strategy really advances the conversation. I realize a lot of people here get very thin skinned if you question "their" players, but I was merely pointing out an atypical (and sometimes successful) draft approach.

I do think it will be pretty challenging to begin building a balanced offense with more than 60 hitters off the board and no FAAB. And that's assuming he didn't decide to grab more arms first.

In other words.............he's a moron! No need to "sugar coat".

The 13 slot was actually our 12th choice in KDS. Needless to say, if we knew we'd get those two, it would be our first selection.

I like what you guys did in rounds 3-6, too.

Thanks. We do too. Give us a few more rounds, I'm sure we'll mess it up.
