Somebody grab Tom Seaver and get over to Glenn's house quick with some tequila and dirty magazines....I am thinking he is going to need to be cheered up in a big way...

Sucks for Harvey...TJS means no 2014....
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

That's just awful. I don't have him on any teams, but he is fun to watch. A real shame.
Who is this, robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of his strength? “It is I, proclaiming victory, mighty to save.” Isaiah 63:1

I have him on 8 teams but the only saving grace is that he was going to be shut down after three more starts anyway. It is the "Met Curse" coming into play yet again!!

Glen actually live a few blocks away from me and I did just hear an incredibly loud shreik so it's quite possible he just got the news!! :D :D

Four years that a top line NL East hurler goes down to Tommy John.
At different times over the last four years, Zimmerman, Strasburg, Beachy. and now Harvey.
Harvey was a joy to watch. He'll be missed next year.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Wow- I wonder if anyone knows how many ptichers pre 1990 lost careers with these elbow problems, because it just seems its out of control the last 10 years.

Elbows, Obliques, calf muscles and hammys, seems we never heard of these injuires, at least at the rate they occur now

Stinks for the Mets...

I really have no basis for this but I blame the Mets. I think he overpitched trying to be perfect because he had no offense behind him. If the Mets were a decent team offensively, I think it might have been different.

Note to self: Don't draft M. Harvey next year.

Was at the game Sat. He just didn't look right. Velocity was off at the start, picked back up to 95, then down to 91-93 at the end. Just chalked it up to workload at the time & figured he was just gassed. Now it makes sense.

It looks like Matt Harvey is opting for rehab to see if he can avoid surgery. You can't blame the guy for that, but we may not know his status for certain now for a few more months. Interesting.

Here's the latest from CBS Sports' Jon Heyman:

He's a competitive guy. Not being able to pitch really ticks him off. Might as well let him try to throw to see for himself if he can go without the surgery. Then when cooler heads prevail readdress the issue. Whether he has surgery now or Dec/Jan shouldn't make much difference. Next year is a lost year anyway. The goal is to get him ready for April '15.
