True Meaning of Fantasy?

Last night, my wife, son and I were out at a local Italian restaurant, waiting at the bar for a table. Three guys were sitting next to us, awaiting a pickup order. They were drinking martinis and were clearly ebullient. Soon, they let slip that they were picking up food for their fantasy auction. It...

Challenge To Craig W.

To Craig W.:

March 19 at 9 PM $250 satellite league. There are 7 spots left. Show me how a real player does it.

Looking forward to drafting with you and you know you can sneak Dee-Dee by me in the first 10 rounds ;)

Re: My Draft Strategy (For 1 draft at least)

My estimation is that the offense has serious risk to not only not dominate, but not fair very well. I think that you took on severe average risk with Napoli, Upton, Werth, Gordon, Morse, Ianetta, Alvarez...and even Longoria. I see a bottom 2-3 team in avg, middle of the pack in the 4 sp categories....

The Girl Who Loved Dee Gordon

Stephen King, whom I do not read, wrote a book called The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Dee's father. I find it incredible that so many NFBC players are risking their season on Dee. This is a rookie who was sent down to the minors last season when he batted in the .200 range, a guy who will almost guar...

Re: Time For Shawn And I To Win LABR

Doug Dennis really ended up with a team even his mother could not love. He has two guys that I have never heard of: Brad Brach and Joseph Whelan(who I think may be my plumber). That is after doing a Slow Draft, wherein the top 750 players are drafted.

Shawn, How much of your draft is mapped out and adjusted to the flow of the draft, and how much is purely based upon flow of the draft? Doug

As an aside, thanks to my slow draft mates who I believe became familiar with my PT schedule, and reacted with patience and graciousness.

Re: Self-Scouting Ryan Howard

Greg, Thanks for the concern...I have been following Ryan Howard's (and now Chauncy Billups as well)recovery as closely as the news allows. By my calculations, he is over 4 months post surgery now. His recovery is quite amazing. I also think athletes can dedicate themselves to rehab 24-7 and are you...

Huge Thank You To Baseball HQ and Ron Shandler

I am forever a fan and Baseball HQ won a fan for life. As many of you will recall, I tore my achilles in December. After surgery, I spent countless hours studying and taking notes in my Forecaster. I accidentally left it on top of my bedside wastepaper basket one night. The next day, it was inadvert...

Re: Countdown to the NFBC

Thanks Glenn for the good wishes...means all the more coming from a fellow Met fan. Here is an update: I am coming up on three weeks post surgery. I am still on crutches and in one of those big can boots. The doctor yesterday started me weaning off the crutches and I start PT tomorrow. What constant...

Re: First Round Names Without Numbers

Shoulders. A good buddy of mine, who just got engaged, once told me about women, I love a good set of shoulders. When it comes to fantasy baseball, I am the same way, though our intents are undoubtedly 180 degree polar opposites. When a pitcher hurts an elbow, a finger, a knee, even a back, they are...

Re: pineda for montero

From the Mariners perspective, Jack Z despite his brilliant rep seems to be making a mess. His whole philosophy that he brought to Seattle was that defense was undervalued in the same way that OBP was during the Moneyball Oakland era. So he signs guys who had good defensive metrics, and loads up on ...

Re: pineda for montero

From the Yankees perspective, they are telling us a few things: 1) They do not believe Hughes' body/shoulder holds up as a starter. Hughes was last effective over a long haul as a reliever. I think that they believed that he adds the most value to that team, combining with Robertson and Soriano to s...
